The Fun of Writing

While majoring in journalism at Northwestern University, I got my first paid writing job with Plymouth Traveler Magazine. My editors were a hoot, and I was hooked.

Since then, I’ve written hundreds of trade & business magazine features, freelanced for ad agencies, penned speeches for execs, produced marketing materials, scripted videos, and written Help for tech products.

I enjoyed it all but nothing beats researching & writing mystery/suspense novels. I just sent my publisher the manuscript for my 12th novel, Beyond the Gates, An HOA Mystery, which is set to release in late March, 2025.

Like my heroines, I've lived in the South for decades, though I'm proud to call Keokuk, Iowa, my hometown.

I highly recommend several writer/reader organizations. I'm secretary of the Southeast chapter of Mystery Writers of America. I'm a long-time member of Sisters in Crime, and served as a local chapter president for five years. I also belong to the Authors Guild and International Thriller Writers. All great organizations.

Through these groups I've met critique partners and made life-long friends. Critique groups can benefit any author.
